Primary Objective of Position

Perform qualifications and improvements to testing methods that includes overseeing work to automate complex testing operations (LabView), instructs personnel on test operations, generates work instructions, process specifications and routers for manufacturing release, analyzes and plans layout of equipment and workspace for utmost efficiency using Lean Manufacturing concepts. Recognizes production tooling needed to improve production capabilities and decrease cycle times while meeting quality control compliance.
 
Education and Experience
 
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in EET or Associates degree or two-year technical degree/BSEET in Electronics Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • At least 5-8 years’ experience
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. 

Technical Summary:
 
Vast knowledge of O/E fiber optic communications, testing methods and protocols. Liaison for the transfer of New Product Introduction (NPI) products to full manufacturing deployment. Coordinates manufacturing readiness activities, works closely with the New Product Introduction (NPI) Team to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) directives are fulfilled, implements manufacturing release internally and/or at the Contract Manufacture locations.
Core accountabilities include improvements to process yield, scrap, cycle times, On Time Delivery (OTD), manufacturing efficiencies, equipment up-time, timeline schedules for NPI to Production release.
Manufacturing readiness and sustaining responsibilities include Optical Test set up using optical communication test equipment such as Bit Error Rate Testers, Oscilloscopes with DCA data rate filter insets, optical attenuators, light meters, power supplies, optical analyzers, etc., Ability to perform the test set up that is crucial to verify the product operating characteristics at data rates ranging from 125 Mbps to 10 Gbps, configured for single mode or multi-mode applications that coincides with the operating parameters documented in the technical data sheet such as receiver sensitivity, extinction ratio, optical rise/fall times, signal detect threshold values, optical power, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Responsible for all technical sustaining functions at the Contract Manufacture (CM) locations. Direct contact for all technical issues resulting in adverse yields, OTD due to equipment performance, defective test equipment, ect. First interface with the Design Team for production problems related to design. Responsible for all CM testing readiness. Oversees/manages all new CM deployments from start to release. This includes documentation, test equipment, assembly fixtures, timelines, start up assistance, ect. 
  • Responsible for all testing operations in Manufacturing, ensures test equipment is functioning per requirements, data collection is operational and accurate, calibrations are valid, all pre-flight checklist items are satisfied, personnel are trained and certified to test product.
  • Interface to Design Engineering and Contract Manufacture for NPI to production release.
  • Provide analysis and process troubleshooting to improve existing manufacturing efficiency, yields, scrap, costs, OTD and ease to manufacture.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to the manufacturing personnel
  • Analyze, organize, and define production methods and processes essential to manufacture products of complex design, utilizing established standards and acceptable variations.
  • Willingness to be hands-on with equipment and production employees.
  • Participate in the evaluation, procurement and start-up of new capital equipment
  • Attend Design Reviews and evaluate product designs for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Evaluates complex manufacturing processes by conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, testing, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers, and soliciting considerations from operator’s/production technicians
  • Cost savings activities - execute value added projects, decrease cycle times and improve efficiency via engineering improvements, oversee test automation and scrap reduction.
  • Ensure all new, revised and existing equipment meets safety and environmental requirements
  • Lead, teams engaged in continuous improvements and new product deployments
  • Determine, design and implement test set up’s, fixtures, and gages for manufacturing and assembly operations
  • Develop and manage multiple project plans and schedules for work activities within timing and cost constraints
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Oversees production cycle times and ensures routings are accurate and sustainable.
  • Responsible for working with QA, overseeing RMAs to determine root cause, corrective actions and recovery options.
  • Ensures manufacturing documentation for assembly and test processes are accurate and available
